CardCritics™ Opinion
The Navy Federal GO REWARDS Credit Card is a solid option for Navy Federal members who want a card with a competitive interest rate and some rewards on top. The 0.99% intro APR on purchases for the first 6 months of account opening provides new cardholders with breathing room, and the ongoing 13.49% – 18.00% Variable APR is below average. For members who eat out and drive regularly, earning 3x points at restaurants and 2x points on gas makes this an easy card to get value from without paying an annual fee.

CONS
Navy Federal GO REWARDS Card Benefits
Note that the GO REWARDS Card comes in several versions: standard Visa, standard Mastercard, Visa Signature and World Mastercard. Core rewards and fees are the same across all versions, but the Visa Signature and World Mastercard versions include additional network-level perks such as concierge service and travel protections. Refer to your specific card’s benefit guide for full details.
Minimal Fees
The NFCU GO REWARDS Card doesn’t charge an annual fee, foreign transaction fees, balance transfer fees or cash advance fees. Most cards hit you with at least one of these. If you travel internationally or are stationed abroad, a card with no foreign transaction fees matters more than you might expect. Many no-annual-fee cards charge a 3% fee on international purchases, and cardholders don’t even notice.
Bonus Rewards Categories
The GO REWARDS Card earns 3x points at restaurants, 2x points on gas and 1x points on everything else. For anyone who eats out regularly or has a long commute, those two categories work in your favor. It’s not a complicated earning structure, which is part of the appeal.
Points are worth 1 cent each and can be redeemed for cash back, travel, gift cards or merchandise through Navy Federal’s online banking or mobile app. Navy Federal’s Member Deals portal can also bump your earnings up to 15x points with select retailers.
One thing worth knowing is that restaurants inside hotels, casinos or grocery stores sometimes don’t code as restaurants. If that happens, you’ll earn 1x points instead of 3x points. Not a dealbreaker, but worth keeping in mind.
Competitive APR
The Navy Federal GO REWARDS Card comes with a 0.99% intro APR on purchases for the first 6 months of account opening, then 13.49% – 18.00% Variable APR. A 13.49% – 18.00% Variable APR applies to balance transfers. This offer is available for applications submitted by June 30, 2026. After that, there’s a 13.49% – 18.00% Variable APR, depending on your creditworthiness. That’s extremely competitive for a low-APR credit card.
Rental Car Coverage
The GO REWARDS Card includes car rental insurance on rentals of 15 days or less when you pay with the card.
Coverage is secondary, so your personal auto insurance applies first, but it covers physical damage, theft, towing charges, and any loss-of-use fees the rental company might charge. That means you can pass on the insurance upsell at the counter. I’ve done it myself with rental coverage through my card, and it gives you peace of mind knowing you’re still protected.
Navy Federal GO REWARDS Card Drawbacks
Credit Union Membership Required
To apply for the GO REWARDS Card, you need to be a Navy Federal Credit Union member. Membership is open to active duty, veterans, and retirees across all branches, Department of Defense (DoD) civilians and contractors, and immediate family members, including spouses, parents, siblings and grandchildren. Household members qualify, too. If none of that applies to you, you would need to establish membership before applying.
No Welcome Bonus
Many comparable no-annual-fee cards offer welcome bonuses in the $200 range after meeting a minimum spending requirement. The GO REWARDS Card has none. If you’re the type who opens a new card specifically for a welcome bonus, this isn’t the right choice.
Thin Bonus Categories
You earn 3x points at restaurants and 2x points on gas, which can be valuable if those are major spending categories. However, the card does not offer bonus categories for common expenses like groceries or streaming, so many everyday purchases earn just 1 point per dollar.
Who Is the NFCU GO REWARDS Credit Card Best For?
The GO REWARDS Card is built for Navy Federal Credit Union members who want a competitive interest rate and don’t need many extras. The APR range is one of the more reasonable ones you’ll find on a no-annual-fee rewards card, and the intro APR offer gives you some runway if you’re carrying a balance in the early months.
If dining and gas are your two biggest spending categories, the earning structure works in your favor without requiring any effort. I have a rewards card that offers 5x points on rotating categories, but it takes more effort to manage. I have to activate the benefit manually each quarter and remember which categories apply that season. The GO REWARDS Card skips all of that.
That said, if you’re primarily after a welcome bonus or want to earn on groceries, this card won’t be the right fit. And if you’re a points maximizer looking to transfer rewards to travel partners, look elsewhere.
Is It the Right Card for You?
The Navy Federal GO REWARDS Card is worth considering if:
- You’re a Navy Federal Credit Union member or qualify for membership
- Most of your spending happens at restaurants and gas stations
- You want a card that doesn’t require much maintenance
- A lower APR matters more to you than a flashy welcome bonus
- You’re not chasing transfer partners or premium travel perks
Alternatives to the Navy Federal GO REWARDS Credit Card
If the GO REWARDS Card isn’t the right fit, here are three alternatives worth considering:
- Wells Fargo Autograph® Card: If you want strong bonus categories and aren’t restricted to NFCU, the Autograph Card is hard to beat as a no-annual-fee option. It earns 3 points per dollar on restaurants, travel, transit, gas stations, popular streaming services, and select phone plans. New cardholders qualify for a 0% intro APR for 12 months from account opening on purchases, followed by a 18.49%, 24.49%, or 28.49% Variable APR. A 18.49%, 24.49%, or 28.49% Variable APR will apply for balance transfers. The ongoing APR is higher than the GO REWARDS card, so it’s better suited for people who pay their balance in full each month.
- U.S. Bank Altitude® Go Visa Signature® Card: The Altitude Go is another card worth considering if most of your spending goes to eating out. It earns 4 points per dollar on dining, takeout, and restaurant delivery on the first $2,000 spent each quarter (then 1x), plus 2 points per dollar at grocery stores, gas stations, and on streaming services. It also comes with a $15 annual streaming credit and a 0% Intro APR for 15 billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers, then 17.99% – 27.99% APR.
- Navy Federal Credit Union® More Rewards American Express® Credit Card: This is another strong option for NFCU members seeking points on everyday spending. This card earns 3 points per dollar on gas, transit, restaurants, food delivery and supermarkets. There’s also a welcome bonus: You can earn 20k bonus points (a $200 value) when you spend $2,000 within 90 days of account opening. The catch is that it runs on the Amex network, which has more limited international acceptance than Visa or Mastercard.
