The Chase Sapphire Reserve® recently received a huge makeover, adding a slew of new statement credits and perks while hiking its annual fee from $550 to $795.

It’s still among the best travel credit cards, and for frequent travelers, the increased Chase Sapphire Reserve annual fee could be well worth it to gain up to $2,700 in benefit value each year.

Let’s take a close look at Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits to help you decide if this popular premium credit card is a good fit for your travel and spending habits.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is offering an impressive welcome bonus. New cardholders can earn 125,000 points after they spend $6,000 on purchases in the first three months.

When you redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards® points from your Sapphire Reserve account through Chase Travel, they’re worth 1 cent each (and up to 2 cents with Chase’s Points Boost feature), which means 125,000 points can be worth at least $2,500 in travel.

You also have the option of transferring points at a 1:1 ratio to over a dozen Chase partner airline and hotel loyalty programs like United MileagePlus, Southwest Rapid Rewards, World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy and more. When redeeming this way, it’s possible to get even more value from your Chase points.

In addition to the welcome offer, the Chase Sapphire Reserve’s ongoing earning rates can help you maximize credit card rewards

  • 8 points per dollar on Chase Travel purchases (after the first $300 is spent on travel annually)
  • 5 points per dollar on eligible Lyft rides through Sept. 30, 2027
  • 4 points per dollar on flights and hotels booked directly (after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually)
  • 3 points per dollar dining purchases worldwide, including takeout and eligible delivery
  • 1 point per dollar on other purchases

One of the original standout benefits of the Sapphire Reserve is its flexible annual travel credit. Each card anniversary year, you’ll receive up to $300 in statement credits toward qualifying travel purchases you put on your card, including:

  • Airlines
  • Hotels/motels
  • Timeshares
  • Car rentals
  • Cruises
  • Travel agencies
  • Camping
  • Transportation, including taxis, limousines, trains, parking services, tolls and ferries

Competing cards with travel credits, such as the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, limit eligible purchases to those made through the issuer’s travel portal. The Sapphire Reserve $300 travel credit is much more flexible because it applies to just about any eligible travel purchase.

One of the biggest new Sapphire Reserve benefits is up to $500 in annual credit toward bookings with The Edit℠, Chase’s collection of luxury hotels and resorts. The credit is split semi-annually (up to $250 from January to June, and up to $250 from July to December) and is valid on minimum two-night bookings.

The Edit hotel bookings come with elite-like perks, such as a $100 property credit, daily breakfast for two and room upgrades when available. On the downside, most properties included in the collection are quite pricey, so saving $250 on a two-night stay might not put much of a dent in your overall expense.

Another new Sapphire Reserve perk is up to $300 per year in statement credits (up to $150 from January to June and up to $150 from July to December) toward dining at Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables restaurants. This new platform provides cardholders access to prime-time reservations at upscale, high-demand restaurants.

Cardholders can also take advantage of up to $300 per year in statement credits toward StubHub and Viagogo purchases (again up to $150 from January to June and up to $150 from July to December). This benefit is an easy way to save if you already attend concerts and shows throughout the year. Activation required.

Sapphire Reserve cardholders can activate complimentary Apple TV+ and Apple Music subscriptions, valued at $250 per year. Activation required.

Through Dec. 31, 2027, cardholders can receive up $10 per month in statement credits toward eligible Peloton All-Access, Rental, App+, Guide, App One and Strength+ memberships. This is on top of earning 10x points on Peloton and accessory purchases over $150 until the same date. Activation required.

The Sapphire Reserve now offers complimentary IHG One Rewards Platinum elite status to cardholders through Dec. 31, 2027 (activation required). IHG Platinum elites receive a 60% points bonus on paid stays, a welcome amenity, room upgrades when available, and early check-in/late checkout when available.

Cardholders who spend at least $75,000 on their Sapphire Reserve in a calendar year can unlock additional premium perks:

  • Southwest Airlines A-List status: Southwest’s first tier of elite status includes perks like bonus points earning on paid tickets, priority boarding, a free checked bag on Southwest flights, and dedicated lanes at Southwest check-in counters and airport security.
  • Up to $500 in Southwest credit: Cardholders can receive up to $500 in statement credits toward Southwest flights booked through Chase Travel.
  • IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite status: This is IHG’s highest elite tier, offering a 100% bonus points on paid stays and other benefits beyond the Platinum level.
  • Up to $250 in credit for The Shops at Chase: Cardholders receive up to $250 in statement credits toward The Shops at Chase, the issuer’s exclusive online shopping platform.

Once you spend $75,000 in a calendar year, you’ll get these perks for the remainder of that year and through the following calendar year.

Chase recently unveiled its new Points Boost feature on the Sapphire Reserve and other cards. When you use points to book through Chase Travel, you can get up to 2 cents per point in value on select redemptions.

Sapphire Reserve cardholders receive access to Priority Pass airport lounges (enrollment required), with over 1,300 locations worldwide. Airport lounge access is highly valued by frequent flyers for its complimentary drinks and food in most locations, along with traveler-friendly amenities like fast Wi-fi, plentiful outlets to power up devices and a relaxing ambiance.

Chase also runs its own Sapphire Lounges by The Club, which Sapphire Reserve cardholders can also access. Current locations include:

  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
  • Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)
  • New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
  • New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
  • San Diego International Airport (SAN)
  • Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) (coming soon)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (coming soon)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) (coming soon)

Cardholders can use their card for international purchases without incurring foreign transaction fees, making the Sapphire Reserve a good choice for travel abroad.

As a Visa Infinite card, the Sapphire Reserve credit card offers comprehensive travel insurance and purchase coverage. For example, cardholders receive:

  • Extended warranty
  • Purchase protection
  • Return protection

Credit card travel insurance can be invaluable if the unexpected happens on a trip, and the Sapphire Reserve is among the best travel insurance credit cards on the market.

Sapphire Reserve cardholders can get reimbursed up to $120 for the Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS application fee once every four years when they pay for it with their card.

It’s better to opt for Global Entry or NEXUS over TSA PreCheck since the first two include TSA PreCheck as a benefit.

Many of the best Chase credit cards, including the Sapphire Reserve, include a complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership (activation required by Dec. 31, 2027). DashPass normally costs $9.99 per month and gets you $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on DoorDash and Caviar orders.

Benefits include up to $20 per month (in the form of two $10 credits) off grocery, convenience store and non-restaurant deliveries when using DoorDash for orders. Members can also benefit from a monthly $5.00 in-app credit that can be applied to the subtotal of their DoorDash or Caviar order.

The Bottom Line on Sapphire Reserve Benefits

The Chase Sapphire Reserve card carries a high annual fee, but the value of its benefits and perks can far exceed the cost. For frequent travelers, the rewards on travel and dining purchases can be worth the investment.

Even if you only travel a few times a year, the card can still be worth it for the annual travel, dining, and partner credits it provides, not to mention the airport lounge access. Plus, if having top-notch travel and purchase protection is important to you, it’s hard to go wrong with the Sapphire Reserve.

What is the Chase Sapphire Reserve good for?

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is one of the top credit cards for travel. Cardholders receive a wide range of travel benefits, including 8x points on travel booked through Chase, over $1,000 in annual travel, dining and partner credits, and access to Chase Sapphire Lounges in airports.

Do I get lounge access with the Chase Sapphire Reserve?

With a Sapphire Reserve, you get access to more than 1,300 lounges in over 500 cities around the globe. If you’re a primary card member, you can invite up to two guests. Your credit card will accrue a fee per guest if you extend the two-guest limit.

How much do you need to spend on the Chase Sapphire Reserve to break even?

The welcome bonus and over $1,000 in annual credits make the $795 annual fee quite easy to justify. If you earn the bonus your first year, you’ve already more than covered the cost of the annual fee that year since your points are worth at least $2,500 toward travel booked through Chase.

Beyond year one, assuming you spend $300 on travel to earn the annual credit you need and use at least $500 worth of other credits, you’ll break even on the annual fee. That’s not even considering the value of perks like travel insurance and airport lounge access, which are harder to quantify.
