The TD Cash Credit Card is a solid and convenient credit card that delivers excellent value with surprising benefits and perks. Having personal experience as a cardholder, it offers great flexibility and a cash-back rewards system that’s easy to manage.

Here’s a closer look at some TD Cash Credit Card benefits you may have overlooked.

New cardholders who spend $1,000 within the first 90 days of opening their accounts will earn $200 cash back from TD. This is a low barrier to entry compared to other rewards credit cards

Cardholders who qualify for the welcome offer can receive the cash as a bank deposit, statement credit redemption or in other ways. Always review the terms and conditions to verify your eligibility.

The TD Cash Credit Card doesn’t charge an annual fee. This makes it a great card for people looking to build their credit history.

Another great TD Cash Credit Card benefit is the 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 billing cycles after account opening. After that a 19.24%, 24.24% or 29.24% variable APR based on your creditworthiness.

There is a 3% balance transfer fee (minimum $5) for each transfer. After the introductory period is over, the fee rises to 5% (minimum $5).

If you’re carrying high-interest debt, using a balance transfer card like the TD Cash Credit Card could help you save money.

The name of the card puts a spotlight on the cash-back rewards, but that’s not the only way to use your rewards. Cardholders have several redemption options to choose from.

While you can always deposit your points into your TD Bank account or use them as a statement credit, you can also redeem through TD’s Rewards Program. The program website has rotating offers for booking travel, buying gift cards or shopping for merchandise.

To get the most out of your card, you can choose two categories that earn the highest rewards. One will earn 3% cash back and the other will earn 2% cash back. The rest of your purchases will earn 1% back. You can change your spending categories at any time, and the changes will take effect the following quarter.

Here is what each category covers:

  • Dining: This spending category includes dining in restaurants and fast-food establishments.
  • Groceries: This can be redeemed at full grocery stores, bakeries and some convenience stores. Note: Members may only receive 1% cash back at warehouse clubs and super stores. Money orders, cash equivalents and gift cards are not eligible, according to the terms and conditions.
  • Entertainment: The entertainment category encompasses a range of entertainment and recreational events and services, including movie theaters, amusement parks, ticket agencies and tourist attractions.
  • Travel: Travel spend category rewards may be used at travel and transportation merchants, including hotels, travel agencies, airline tickets, cruise lines, car rentals, parking and tolls.

New card members start with dining and groceries for the first six months. However, they may change one of their spending categories within 30 days of opening their account. The change will take effect in the next quarter.

While I typically use my spending categories for groceries and dining — because that’s where I spend the most — I’ll change one of my spending categories to travel around the holidays to increase my rewards in advance.

One of the best TD Cash Credit Card perks, in my opinion, is the cell phone protection. When you use the TD Cash Credit Card to pay your monthly cell phone bill, you’re eligible for reimbursement if your phone is lost, stolen or damaged.

The card also offers extended warranty protection for up to one year on select items. Between these protections, it can be a smart move to use the TD Cash Credit Card benefits for items you’d want covered, especially appliances, tech and electronics.

The TD Cash Credit Card also offers the following fraud protection perks:

  • Emergency Card Replacement: If your card is stolen or lost, TD will send you a new card immediately.
  • Purchase Security: If an item you purchase in the first 90 days is damaged due to weather conditions, fire or water damage, purchase security can repair, replace or reimburse you for the eligible item.
  • Identity Theft Protection: Your TD Bank Visa Credit Card comes with ID Navigator Powered by Norton LifeLock, essential tools if your identity is threatened.
