How Long Do Chase Ultimate Rewards Points Take To Transfer to Partner Programs?

A young woman sits with her luggage looking at her phone next to an airport window overlooking aircraft at the gates.

Chase Ultimate Rewards® are valuable because of their shape-shifting qualities. Transferring to hotel and airline partners gives you the ultimate flexibility when you redeem your points, but if your transfer doesn’t get there before your dream redemption disappears, you’re stuck with points in a program that you can’t use.

I’ve been there, spotting an 8,000-Hyatt-point night in Chicago or a 25,000-Aeroplan-point flight to Panama in business class, but not having enough points to book the deal right away. Fortunately, I knew which programs Chase sends points to instantly and which ones take time, so I felt confident sending my points over to book the deal.

Here’s what you need to know before you send points on a one-way journey to a partner program.

Spotting award availability in a Chase transfer partner’s program feels like finding cash in an old jacket — thrilling until you realize your points might not arrive in time to book it. That’s where understanding transfer partners and their timing becomes non-negotiable for anyone chasing real value from Ultimate Rewards.

Chase offers 1:1 transfers to 10 airline frequent flyer programs and four hotel loyalty programs in 1,000-point increments. Not only that, some of the partners can offer real value compared to cash pricing. That’s flexibility that beats most bank programs, but the catch lies in how long those points take to land. This section covers the basics before we get to the actual timelines.

What Are Chase Ultimate Rewards Points?

Ultimate Rewards points anchor Chase’s rewards system, earned on regular spending with flexibility beyond portal bookings. They gain value through partner transfers, where targeted redemptions can exceed rates redeeming for cash or using the Chase Travel℠ portal. Pooling points across eligible cards feeds one account for transfers.

That transfer magic only unlocks with specific cards, turning a decent rewards program into a powerhouse for savvy users. Points hold steady value until you cash out via partners, where scarcity drives the upside. They don’t expire as long as the account remains open, though transfers are final.

Which Chase Cards Allow Point Transfers?

Only Chase’s premium card tier handles direct transfers to partners, a gatekeeping move meant to nudge users toward higher-annual-fee options. To transfer points to a travel partner, you need to have one of the following Chase credit cards

No-annual-fee cards like Chase Freedom Unlimited® or Chase Freedom Flex® enter the game indirectly — you combine points into a premium card’s account first, with no limit on transfers between your own Chase profiles. That pooling sidesteps the need for multiple premium cards if you’re organized. Watch for elevated introductory offers on these cards; a hefty welcome bonus can often fund your first big transfer.

List of Chase Airline and Hotel Transfer Partners

Airlines:

  • Aer Lingus AerClub
  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue
  • Iberia Club
  • JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Southwest Rapid Rewards
  • The British Airways Club
  • United MileagePlus
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Hotels:

  • IHG One Rewards
  • Marriott Bonvoy
  • World of Hyatt
  • Wyndham Rewards

Note that while Aer Lingus AerClub, British Airways Club and Iberia Club are listed separately as partners, in essence, all three are one program, as points can transfer seamlessly between the three as well as the other partners in the Avios program (notably Finnair and Qatar Airways).

Among the hotel transfer partners, one of these things is distinctly not like the others. World of Hyatt points are highly regarded as being worth up to 2 cents each, while both Marriott Bonvoy points and IHG One Rewards points are typically worth well under 1 cent apiece. Wyndham Rewards comes in right around the penny mark.

But it’s not quite that simple. Marriott Bonvoy offers the fifth night free on award bookings, and certain co-branded IHG hotel credit cards, such as the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card,  unlock the fourth night free as well.  Like with everything, your mileage may vary, so do the math and see if a redemption makes sense to you, even if it’s not the “ideal” cents-per-point ratio.

Chase hedges its bets here with the official stance being, “Point transfers through Chase Ultimate Rewards can process instantly, but can sometimes take up to 7 business days.” The good news is that many people have transferred points, so we have a large dataset to consider. Here’s the standard consensus about which programs are good to go right away and which ones can have you biting your nails, hoping your award doesn’t vanish.

The bottom line is that with airlines, you’re good to go, except with Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, and with hotels, Marriott Bonvoy, and (for now) Wyndham Rewards, you should have a plan B in mind if your intended redemption falls through.

If something doesn’t go through right away, you can usually point to one of these reasons. Try to tackle these pain points before they sabotage your redemption.

  • Name mismatch: If there’s a maiden name, spelling error or even an initial that doesn’t match your Ultimate Rewards account, you run the risk of the transfer being rejected or flagged for manual review.
  • Unusual transfer: If you are sending a bucketload of points to a program for the first time, or if you transfer 1,000 points five times in two hours, you can expect to be flagged for review.
  • Loyalty program website issues: If the program you’re sending points to is down or the website is undergoing an update, it may take a few hours to a couple of days for your points to appear. This is uncommon but has been known to happen.
  • Bonus points lag: Again, this is uncommon, but some have reported that the original points transfer goes right through, but that any transfer bonus points may take a day or two.
