CardCritics™ Opinion

In general, the Disney Premier Visa Card works best for frequent Disney visitors who value in-park discounts and exclusive experiences. The higher rewards structure helps you earn more rewards over time, especially if you consistently redeem Disney Rewards Dollars for park tickets, cruises or resort stays. However, if you prefer more versatile rewards, a travel credit card that earns flexible points may be a better option.

Our Critical Analysis:

Disney Premier Benefits

I’ve carried my Disney Premier Visa Card since it first became available, and I keep it because the stronger rewards earning easily offsets the modest annual fee for my family. When we start planning our next Disney vacation, watching those Disney Rewards Dollars grow feels like stacking up pixie dust for our next adventure. However, I pair the card with other flexible travel rewards credit cards to maximize my rewards earnings and redemptions outside Disney.

Earn Disney Rewards Dollars on Everyday Spending

The card earns 5% in Disney Rewards Dollars on purchases at DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com and ESPNPlus.com. You’ll also earn 2% at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney locations. All other eligible purchases will earn you 1% Disney Rewards Dollars.

You can redeem rewards for Disney travel, theme park tickets, merchandise, and more by loading them onto a Disney Rewards Redemption Card once you reach 20 Rewards Dollars. Cardholders can also redeem through Pay Yourself Back for eligible Disney purchases and airline tickets.

I use my Disney Premier Card for Disney purchases and select everyday spending that falls into the 2% bonus categories. The higher bonus category rewards are the primary way I offset the card’s modest $49 annual fee. However, I still lean on other Chase credit cards and premium rewards credit cards when I want more earning power in certain spending categories, stronger travel protections or flexible point transfers.

Welcome Offer

The card offers an appealing welcome bonus: Get a $200 Disney Gift Card eGift to use today upon approval + earn a $100 statement credit after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

You can use the eGift at Walt Disney World® Resort, Disneyland® Resort, Disney Cruise Line, DisneyStore.com, and other participating Disney locations. The low spending requirement for the statement credit makes it easy for most households to meet the second portion of the offer, especially if you time your application to coincide with everyday bills or upcoming Disney expenses.

Keep in mind that the bonus isn’t available to current cardholders or those who have earned a new cardmember bonus on the card within the last 24 months. Chase may also issue a 1099 for the value of the welcome bonus in certain situations. So be aware of that possibility for tax reporting purposes.

Limited-Time Cardmember Offers

In addition to year-round perks, Disney Premier cardholders receive access to rotating limited-time offers. These promotions may include bonus rewards categories, exclusive merchandise opportunities or seasonal savings available only to cardmembers.

As a Disney Premier cardholder, I’ve received several targeted offers, such as earning 5% total in Disney Rewards Dollars on up to $1,000 in combined purchases at grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants, for a limited time. While these promotions aren’t guaranteed and vary by account, they can temporarily boost the card’s earning power beyond its standard structure if you’re lucky enough to receive one.

10% Off Dining and Merchandise

Cardholders receive 10% off select dining locations and merchandise at Disney World and Disneyland. This discount is available if you open the Disney Premier Visa Card, the no-annual-fee version of the card (the Disney® Visa® Card) or the Disney® Inspire Visa® Card, which has a $149 annual fee.

I’ve used this benefit to save money while sprinkling some extra magic into our family vacations in the past. Some of our favorite uses of the dining discount were character meals at The Crystal Palace with Winnie the Pooh and friends and 1900 Park Fare with Cinderella and other favorites. Since character meals can cost over $60 per adult, the savings add up quickly during multi-day trips.

Exclusive Disney Character Experiences

The Disney Premier Visa Card unlocks private character meet and greets at EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, along with similar experiences at Disneyland Resort. In my experience, these character meet-and-greets often come with noticeably shorter wait times than general character lines.

With younger children, the perk has helped me save time and avoid long outdoor lines in the Florida heat on several family theme park vacations. On numerous occasions, we’ve walked into EPCOT, shown our Disney Premier Visa Card, and stepped into a private photo session (after a short wait) with Mickey Mouse and friends or other classic Disney characters. For families planning a Disney vacation, that convenience adds real value.

Like the dining discount, this perk is available to all Disney co-branded cardholders, not just those with the Disney Premier. The key difference between the Disney Premier and the others is how quickly you can earn rewards.

Promotional Financing on Disney Vacations

Disney Visa Cardmembers can access special promotional financing on select Disney vacation packages: a 0% APR for six months on select Disney vacation packages from the date of purchase (then a 18.24% – 27.74% Variable APR). Eligible trips may include bookings to Walt Disney World® Resort, Disneyland® Resort, Disney Cruise Line sailings, Adventures by Disney® National Geographic Expeditions, and AULANI, A Disney Resort and Spa.

To qualify, you need to book through Walt Disney Travel Company, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney Travel Services or other eligible booking channels. You must charge the vacation package to your Disney Premier Visa Card before your trip begins.

Promotional financing can help you spread out vacation payments while avoiding interest charges for up to six months. But it works best when you already have a payoff plan. Carrying a balance beyond the promotional period can quickly outweigh any rewards you earn. Additionally, even with 0% APR, carrying an outstanding balance on your card can still increase your credit utilization ratio and affect your credit score.

Discounts on Select Tours and Experiences

Cardmembers receive discounts on select guided tours and experiences at Walt Disney World® Resort, including savings on several behind-the-scenes options.

Several guided tours eligible for discount include:

  • Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour (Magic Kingdom Park)
  • EPCOT Seas Adventures — DiveQuest (EPCOT)
  • Behind the Seeds (EPCOT)
  • Caring for Giants (Animal Kingdom)
  • Up Close with Rhinos (Animal Kingdom)
  • Wild Africa Trek (Animal Kingdom)
  • Savor the Savana: Evening Safari Experiences (Animal Kingdom)
  • Starlight Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Wilderness Back Trail Adventure

Years ago, I booked the Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour at Magic Kingdom and received 15% off with my Disney Premier Visa Card. That experience remains one of my favorite Disney memories. The current price for the five-hour tour is $169 to $189 per person (before tax). If you enjoy premium Disney experiences, these savings can make the card even more appealing.

Disney Premier Drawbacks

Even for loyal Disney fans, the Disney Premier Visa Card has limitations worth considering.

Modest Rewards

The card earns 5% in Disney Rewards Dollars on eligible purchases made directly through DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com, and ESPNPlus.com, plus 2% at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney locations. That rewards rate can appeal to families who want bonus rewards in those categories.

However, some competing rewards cards offer statement credits for streaming subscriptions instead of bonus rewards. Depending on your streaming habits, a fixed credit could deliver more predictable value. Outside the bonus categories, many travel credit cards offer higher earning rates and more flexible redemption options.

Annual Fee

The $49 annual fee is manageable compared to many rewards credit cards. Still, the no-annual-fee Disney Card offers similar in-park perks without the extra cost. The key difference comes down to the higher rewards-earning structure on the Disney Premier.

If you don’t spend heavily in the 2% and 5% bonus categories, the annual fee might not justify itself.

Who Is the Disney Premier Visa Card Best For?

The Disney Premier Visa Card is best for Disney loyalists who visit the parks, cruise with Disney or shop at Disney frequently. If you regularly redeem Disney Rewards Dollars for tickets, resort stays or merchandise, the stronger earning structure can quickly offset the card’s modest $49 annual fee.

The card also works for families who plan at least one Disney vacation every year or two. Watching your rewards grow throughout the year can make vacation planning feel intentional. I personally enjoy logging into my account before a trip and seeing a stash of Disney Rewards Dollars ready to help cover park tickets.

However, this card works best as part of a broader travel rewards strategy. For flights, hotels outside Disney and large travel purchases, I still use other premium travel rewards credit cards that offer higher earning power, flexible redemptions and better travel protections.

Is It the Right Card for You?

The Disney Premier Visa may be a good addition to your travel credit card lineup if you:

  • Visit Walt Disney World, Disneyland, or sail on Disney Cruise Line often
  • Stream Disney+, Hulu or ESPN+ and benefit from 5% rewards
  • Spend heavily in the 2% bonus rewards categories.
  • Value in-park perks, Disney merchandise discounts and character experiences.
  • Want a modest annual fee card that offers Disney-focused rewards.

Alternatives to the Disney Premier Card

Before you apply for a new account, it’s always smart to shop around and compare alternatives.

  • Disney Card: This card offers the same in-park discounts and character photo opportunities with no annual fee. However, it earns fewer rewards — just 1% Disney Rewards Dollars on all eligible card purchases. If you value Disney-related perks but spend less overall, this option might be a better fit.
  • Disney Inspire Card: With a $149 annual fee, the Disney Inspire offers elevated rewards, a larger welcome bonus offer and additional statement credits for Disney purchases. It may appeal to frequent Disney travelers who want more premium perks. But the higher annual fee requires more spending to justify.
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card: If flexibility and earning power matter more than Disney-specific perks, the $95-annual-fee Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is worth considering. It offers strong bonus category rewards, travel protections, a $50 annual Chase Travel℠ hotel credit and flexible reward redemptions.
