If you collect credit card rewards, you already know that flexible points are often more valuable than hotel points or airline miles tied to a single program. One of the most popular flexible currencies is Chase Ultimate Rewards®, which can be redeemed for travel through the Chase Travel℠ portal or transferred to several airline and hotel loyalty programs.

One of those transfer options is Marriott Bonvoy. If you’re trying to top off your Marriott account for an award stay, moving your Chase points can be quick and easy.

In this guide, we’ll walk through how to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy step-by-step, explain the transfer ratio and help you decide when this move makes sense — and when it doesn’t.

Can You Transfer Chase Points to Marriott Bonvoy?

Yes, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points directly to Marriott Bonvoy.

Chase partners with several airline frequent flyer programs and hotel loyalty programs, allowing cardholders to move their points into those programs and redeem them for travel. Marriott Bonvoy is one of over a dozen Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partners.

However, not all Chase credit cards allow transfers. To transfer points to Marriott Bonvoy (or any partner), you’ll need a card that offers Ultimate Rewards transfer capabilities, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. 

These cards allow you to unlock the full value of the Ultimate Rewards ecosystem, including transfers to partners like Marriott. If you don’t own one of these Chase cards, you won’t be able to transfer your Ultimate Rewards to Chase’s loyalty partners.

Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy Transfer Ratio

The transfer ratio between Chase Ultimate Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy is 1:1.

That means 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points equals 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. Note that transfers must be made in increments of 1,000 points

Occasionally, Chase offers transfer bonuses to certain programs, which can boost the ratio in your favor. Transfers are also typically instant, though in some cases, it may take a few minutes for the points to appear in your Marriott account. 

Chase states that points will often appear by the next business day, but it can take longer. However, I’ve found that when I’ve transferred points to a hotel program, they’ve only taken a few minutes to appear in the account.

Step-by-Step: How To Transfer Chase Points to Marriott Bonvoy

Transferring your points takes only a few minutes once both accounts are set up. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Log in to Your Chase Ultimate Rewards Account

Start by logging in to your Chase credit card account. You can do it via the Chase app on your phone or on your desktop.

Navigate to your rewards dashboard and click “Redeem Rewards” to access your Ultimate Rewards portal.

From there, select “Transfer to Travel Partners.”

Step 2: Select Marriott Bonvoy

Once you reach the transfer partner list, you’ll see all available airline and hotel programs. Choose Marriott Bonvoy.

If this is your first time transferring points, you’ll need to link your Marriott Bonvoy account.

Step 3: Link Your Marriott Bonvoy Account

Enter your Marriott Bonvoy membership number and confirm your account details. The name on your Chase account must match the name on your Marriott loyalty account. Once linked, the account will remain saved for future transfers.

Step 4: Enter the Number of Points to Transfer

Choose how many points you want to move. Remember, transfers must be in 1,000-point increments, and the minimum transfer is 1,000 points. Be sure to double-check the amount before confirming.

Step 5: Confirm the Transfer

Next, review the transfer details and confirm. In most cases, the points will appear in your Marriott Bonvoy account almost immediately, allowing you to book an award stay right away.

When Does It Make Sense to Transfer Chase Points?

Just because you can transfer points doesn’t always mean you should. In some situations, however, it can be a smart move.

You Need To Top Off Your Marriott Account

One of the best reasons to transfer points is to top off your Marriott balance. If you’re just a few thousand points short of an award night, transferring Chase points can help you book the stay without paying cash. Or, if you have a Marriott free night certificate, Marriott allows you to “top off” the value of that certificate with up to an additional 15,000 Bonvoy points.

I traveled to Panama with my family in November of 2025 and spent three nights at the JW Marriott Panama City. At the time, rooms were available to book for 50,000 Bonvoy points per night. I own two Marriott credit cards, which each come with an annual free night certificate worth up to 35,000 points. I was able to combine each of the certificates with an additional 15,000 points to cover two of the nights at the hotel. 

You Found a High-Value Redemption

Marriott award pricing fluctuates depending on demand, and occasionally, you’ll find a property where the points redemption offers excellent value. For example, luxury resorts or high-season stays can sometimes provide strong redemption rates. A Bonvoy point is generally worth between 0.7 cents and 0.8 cents, so if you can eke more value out of your points for a stay, that would be a high-value redemption. 

To determine how much value you’re getting for a stay booked with points, divide the cash price of the hotel by the number of points required. For example, if the cash price before taxes and fees of a hotel night is $500 or 50,000 points, that would be a value of 1 cent per point.

You Prefer Hotel Flexibility

Some travelers prefer to redeem points for hotel stays rather than for flights. If most of your travel spending goes toward hotels, transferring points to Marriott Bonvoy could better align with your travel habits.

When Does It Not Make Sense to Transfer Chase Points?

There are also situations where transferring points to Marriott may not be the best use of your rewards.

You Could Get Better Value Through Other Transfers

Many experienced points collectors find that airline transfers often provide a higher value per point than hotel transfers. Since Chase points can transfer to multiple airlines, you may want to check those options first.

Similarly, other hotel transfer partners, such as World of Hyatt, can often provide a higher value for your rewards.

You Could Book Through the Chase Travel Portal

Depending on the card you hold, booking travel through the Ultimate Rewards portal may give your points more value than transferring them. For example, the Chase Sapphire Reserve and can offer a value of up to 2 cents per point when booking an eligible hotel through Chase Travel with the issuer’s Points Boost feature, while the Chase Sapphire Preferred can offer a value of up to 1.5 cents per point on qualifying hotel stays.

Before transferring, it’s always worth comparing redemption options.

You Don’t Have a Specific Redemption in Mind

Once you transfer points to Marriott Bonvoy, the transfer cannot be reversed. If you don’t have a hotel booking ready, it’s usually better to keep your points in your Chase account where they remain flexible. In other words, don’t speculatively transfer.

Common Mistakes To Avoid When Transferring Chase Points

Even experienced points and miles aficionados occasionally make mistakes. Here are a few to watch for.

Transferring Points Without Checking Award Availability

Before moving your points, confirm that the hotel you want actually has award nights available. Otherwise, you could end up with Marriott points you can’t use immediately.

Ignoring Better Transfer Options

Chase has several transfer partners. If you don’t compare redemption values, you might miss a better deal. Take a few minutes to review all available options before making the transfer.

Transferring Too Many Points

Only transfer the number of points you need. Because transfers are one-way, sending extra points could limit your future redemption flexibility.
