Yes, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points directly to Aer Lingus AerClub.

However, not all Chase cards allow transfers. You’ll need a card that earns transferable Ultimate Rewards points, many of which appear among the best Chase credit cards.

Cards that allow transfers include premium travel cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. If your card doesn’t allow transfers directly, you may still be able to move your points to an eligible household member or business co-owner with an eligible Ultimate Rewards card.

Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to Aer Lingus AerClub at a 1:1 ratio. Occasionally, Chase may offer promotional transfer bonuses that temporarily increase the number of Avios you receive.

That means 1,000 Chase points equals 1,000 Aer Lingus Avios, and transfers must be made in increments of 1,000 points. Transfers are typically instant.

Once transferred, the points become Avios in your AerClub account and can be redeemed for Aer Lingus flights or partner awards.

Keep in mind that transfers are irreversible. Once you move points to AerClub, they can’t be transferred back to Chase.

Transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Aer Lingus AerClub only takes a few minutes through your Chase account. Here are the steps to follow.

Step 1: Log in To Your Chase Account

Sign in to your account at Chase.com. Select the card that holds your Ultimate Rewards balance, then click “Redeem.”

You can also navigate to your Ultimate Rewards homepage from the main screen by selecting your Ultimate Rewards points from the “Rewards” tab on the right.

Step 2: Open the Transfer Partners Page

From the Ultimate Rewards homepage, select “Travel,” then the subcategory “Transfer points to partners.”

You’ll see a list of airline and hotel partners available for transfers.

Step 3: Select Aer Lingus AerClub

Choose Aer Lingus AerClub from the airline partners list.

If this is your first transfer, you’ll need to link your AerClub account by entering your membership number. Make sure the name on your Chase account matches the name on your Aer Lingus account.

If you don’t have an AerClub account, you’ll need to create one on AerLingus’ website before proceeding.

Step 4: Enter the Number of Points To Transfer

Enter the number of points you want to transfer. Transfers must be made in increments of 1,000 points. Review the transfer details carefully before confirming.

Step 5: Confirm the Transfer

After confirming the transfer, your Avios typically appear in your AerClub account within minutes. Once the transfer is complete, you can book Aer Lingus award flights directly through the AerClub website.

Transferring points to Aer Lingus can provide excellent value in the right situations.

Short-Haul Flights Using Avios

Avios pricing is distance-based, making short flights especially valuable. Some short flights can cost as few as 4,000 to 6,000 Avios, depending on distance and availability.

You’ll also find lower rates on flights outside of North America. For example, I often use Avios if I’m taking a short domestic flight between two European cities. I’ll typically get superior value this way.

Aer Lingus Business-Class Redemptions

Aer Lingus occasionally offers competitive business-class award pricing between the U.S. and Ireland. If award seats are available, transferring points can provide exceptional value.

Many cities in the U.S. offer direct routes to Dublin on Aer Lingus, where you may be able to find great award rates for business-class flights. It’s also a much cheaper way to enter Europe in terms of paying taxes and fees than if you flew into the UK, which has some of the highest airport taxes in the world.

Partner Airline Bookings

Because Aer Lingus uses Avios, you can transfer Avios to any of the other six affiliated Avios programs. This flexibility can help you find better award availability across the Avios ecosystem. Aer Lingus also partners with several airlines, giving you a vast network of flights to search for the best way to use your Avios.

While every program may have different rates, taxes, and fees by destination, the flexibility to move points around can give you plenty of options. I will always check the award pricing and fees charged by multiple programs before making my final decision.

When Cash Prices Are High

If cash fares are expensive, transferring points to an airline program may require fewer points than booking with cash. See what your value per point is compared to the cash rate to make sure you’re getting a good deal.

While transferring points can unlock value, it isn’t always the best option.

Limited Award Availability

Airline award seats can be limited, especially during peak travel seasons. If you can’t find award availability, transferring points may not make sense.

Cheap Cash Fares

When airfare is inexpensive, booking through Chase Travel℠m or paying cash may be the better option. You’ll want to compare the cash rate to the points rate to see what kind of value you’ll get. I generally recommend aiming for at least 1 to 1.5 cents per point in value for any award booking.

Losing Flexibility

Ultimate Rewards points are among the most flexible currencies offered by the best travel credit cards, redeemable for statement credits, travel bookings or transfers to other partners.

However, once you transfer points to Aer Lingus — or any other partner — you lose that flexibility. You can’t move your points back to Chase, so make sure you plan to use your points when you transfer them.

Transfer Bonuses Elsewhere

Occasionally, Chase offers transfer bonuses to certain partners. If another partner has a bonus available, you might get better value by transferring there instead. As I mentioned, there are many different ways to book the route you want, so evaluate accordingly.

Before transferring points to Aer Lingus, watch out for these common mistakes.

Transferring Before Confirming Award Availability

I recommend always confirming that the award flights you want are available before transferring points. Since transfers cannot be reversed, sending points without a plan can leave you stuck with Avios you may not use.

Forgetting About Taxes and Fees

Even when booking with points, award tickets include taxes and carrier surcharges. Check the total cost before transferring points, as it can vary significantly by destination. You may also find that other programs can book the same flight with lower fees. It’s worth exploring all options to figure out what works best.

Ignoring Other Redemption Options

You can often book the same route with many different programs. You may find better rates or lower taxes and fees with a different program. You may also want to compare with travel portals, such as Chase Travel, to see how the value compares. Depending on the cash rate, you may get better value for your Ultimate Rewards booking through the portal compared to transferring to Aer Lingus.

Not Understanding Avios Pricing

Aer Lingus uses Avios, which often follows a distance-based award pricing structure. Short flights may offer great value, while longer routes may require significantly more points.

Can you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Avios?

Yes. When you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Aer Lingus AerClub, they become Avios, the rewards currency used by Aer Lingus and several partner airlines.

Ultimate Rewards can also be transferred to The British Airways Club and Iberia Club, which have their own Avios programs. You can transfer Avios to any of the other six affiliated Avios programs once you move Ultimate Rewards into any of those programs under the right conditions.

Is Aer Lingus AerClub part of the Avios program?

Yes. Aer Lingus AerClub uses Avios as its loyalty currency, similar to British Airways and Iberia. This shared currency can add flexibility because Avios can be transferred between these programs.

Can you transfer Chase points to Aer Lingus and then to British Airways?

Yes. Once your Chase points are converted to Avios in your Aer Lingus AerClub account, you may be able to transfer those Avios to other Avios programs, such as The British Airways Club or Iberia Club. However, Chase Ultimate Rewards also transfers directly to British Airways. In most cases, it’s easier to transfer directly, although some travelers move Avios between programs depending on award availability or transfer bonuses.

Do Aer Lingus Avios expire?

Yes, Aer Lingus Avios can expire if your account remains inactive for 36 months. However, any qualifying activity — such as earning or redeeming Avios — typically resets the expiration clock. Activity could include flying with Aer Lingus, transferring Avios from another Avios program or redeeming Avios.
