Enhanced Earnings on Partner Airlines

The card rewards loyalty with 3 Avios per dollar on Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia and LEVEL flight purchases. You’ll also earn 2 Avios per dollar on hotel accommodations booked directly with hotels, and 1 Avios per dollar on everything else.

Annual Companion Ticket

After spending $30,000 in purchases during a calendar year, you’ll receive an economy companion ticket valid for 12 months. The companion flies free (you only pay taxes and fees) on Aer Lingus flights between the U.S. and Ireland when traveling with the cardholder.

Priority Boarding

Cardholders and any authorized users receive priority boarding on Aer Lingus-operated flights between the U.S. and Ireland.

Simply show your card at the gate to board earlier and secure overhead bin space. It’s a simple perk, but it improves the flying experience without additional cost.

DoorDash Benefit

Additionally, DashPass members receive up to $10 off non-restaurant DoorDash orders quarterly through the end of 2027.

Aer Lingus Visa Signature Card Drawbacks

While the Aer Lingus Credit Card offers solid value for its target audience, it has several limitations that may make it less attractive compared to more flexible travel cards.

Limited Earning Potential

Outside of partner airline purchases and hotel bookings, the card’s earning rate drops to just 1 Avios per dollar. More versatile travel rewards cards often offer higher base earning rates or broader bonus categories.

Avios Program Flexibility

The Avios loyalty program uses distance-based pricing rather than fixed redemption rates, which can be confusing for newcomers to airline loyalty programs. The number of points required varies based on flight distance, travel dates and cabin class.

You can use Avios to book domestic flights on Aer Lingus partners such as American Airlines or Alaska Airlines, but award availability can be limited, making it difficult to find good flight options.

When I was a rewards newbie, I found the Avios program’s complexity overwhelming. Without much experience navigating points and miles, I struggled to find good flight redemptions and ended up using my rewards on Disneyland tickets instead.

Companion Ticket Restrictions

The companion ticket benefit comes with several important limitations. For starters, travel is restricted to Aer Lingus-operated flights between the U.S. and Ireland only. So, if you don’t have plans to travel to the Emerald Isle at least once a year, this perk may have no value for you.

The $30,000 annual spending requirement also means many cardholders may never qualify for this perk, especially considering the card’s low base rewards rate.

The Aer Lingus Card is tailor-made for travelers with a clear focus on Ireland and the British Airways family of airlines. If you’re planning trips to Dublin, Cork or Shannon with any regularity, the combination of Avios earning and priority boarding can significantly enhance your experience while reducing costs.

The card also works well for travelers who want to explore Europe through British Airways and Iberia’s extensive route networks, or the rest of the world through Oneworld partners. Since Avios can be redeemed across more than a dozen airlines, you gain flexibility to visit destinations beyond Ireland.

However, this card requires a strategic approach to maximize its value. Casual travelers who fly to Ireland infrequently or those seeking a versatile everyday spending card would likely find better options elsewhere.
